Along the way, we encounter the Dochula Pass, standing at 3140 meters (10,362 feet), known for its breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan Mountain range, particularly on clear winter days. The pass is decorated with the Druk Wangyal Chortens, a collection of 108 stupas built by Her Majesty Ashi Dorji Wangmo Wangchuck, enhancing the beauty of the surroundings. Sheltered in the eastern mountains of Wangdue Phodrang is the picturesque Phobjikha valley, where the majestic Gangtey monastery, established in the 17th century, blessings the slopes. Descending a few kilometers from the monastery, we find the village of Phobjikha on the valley floor. This tranquil and remote location serves as the winter sanctuary for black-necked cranes, migrating from the dry plains of Tibet in the north to spend the warmer winter months. Situated at an elevation of 1200 meters (3936 ft) above sea level, the Phobjikha valley is a tranquil haven be located in the mountains east of Wangdue Phodrang. Here, one can discover the splendid Gangtey Goemba, a grand monastery established in the 17th century on the slopes of the valley. The village of Phobjikha, located a few kilometers down from the monastery on the valley floor, increases to the tranquility of this remote region. The Phobjikha valley serves as the winter sanctuary for black-necked cranes, migrating from the dry plains of Tibet to escape the harsh winter and enjoy a milder climate.
In morning visit, one can explore the beauty of Gangtey Goemba and witness the timeless landscape. Additionally, a two-hour drive from this picturesque valley leads to the Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Temple of Fertility. Constructed in 1499 by Lam Drukpa Kuenley, famously known as The Divine Madman, this temple offers a unique cultural experience. A half-hour hike through fields from the road takes you to the temple, where wooden phalluses are often hung in the corners of houses. The walls of houses are enhanced with painted phalluses, symbolizing the belief in warding off evil spirits. The hike to Chimi Lhakhang times across valleys and villages, providing a gentle yet slightly steep path. After the exploration, the day concludes with an overnight stay in the enchanting town of Punakha.

The day commences at an elevation of 2234 meters, involving a scenic four-hour drive to Punakha Dzong, a historic fortress built in 1637 by Zhabdrung. Serving as the king’s seat until the reign of the second king, its strategic location between the Mo Chu and Pho Chu rivers adds to its significance.
